10 Months Away From Gymnastics, Carlos Yulo Confirms Medical Update Before Jakarta Worlds

Known for his explosive power and artistry, Carlos Yulo stood atop the podium in Paris last year after clinching two gold medals. Now, all he wants to do is recreate what he did at the 2024 Paris Olympics in the floor exercise and vault. However, just two months before arriving at Jakarta for the 2025 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, Yulo faced trouble with his wrist.
Following his official practice session, Yulo revealed that he has been having problems with his wrists. Citing the reason, he mentioned the overuse of the wrists while learning a new dismount technique on the parallel bars. In a conversation with Olympics.com, he stated that he “kind of did too much” double pike front with a half twist. But that’s not something that can stop him from active competition. With vault and floor exercise in mind, he confessed, “I still want the taste of competition. That is the most important for me right now.”
At the 2024 Paris Olympics, things were truly overwhelming for him. After all, he experienced things that he’d never experienced before winning. Yulo said, “I’m really grateful to God that I could experience that.” But now, it’s time for him to shine at the World Championships. Unlike many others, the Filipino’s goal isn’t victory. Instead, all he wants to do is participate. He stated, “My goal is to perform beautiful gymnastics, to be really graceful. I want to show really good and graceful gymnastics. I’m just really happy that I get to compete.”

Following the events of the 2024 Olympics, Yulo was in the spotlight as the first Filipino man to have won an Olympic gold medal in artistic gymnastics. As a result, he kept receiving gifts and tributes from his countrymen. In the end, he had to go radio silent. There were no social media posts or interviews. But after 10 months, he came back again to assert his dominance. But his plans are slightly different from what he did at the Paris Olympics.

Carlos Yulo makes his mission public
Earlier in February 2025, Yulo seemed to have his expectations in check. He said, “I’m not expecting to win, but I’m expecting to learn from the experiences I will gain in the upcoming competitions.” Of course, staying consistent as an athlete is no easy feat. But he promised to give his best. But the most important thing is that Carlos Yulo wasn’t ready to stop learning.
The experience at the 2024 Olympic Games certainly made him stronger. He claimed, “I was able to meet the people that I needed to meet. [Those times] taught me values not only in gymnastics but also in my personal life.” But now, it’s time for him to recreate a similar performance at the 2025 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. But his goal has shifted a bit. Carlos Yulo confessed, “Right now I’m really focusing on doing All-Arounds at the same time as doing Vault and Floor.”
Even with aching wrists and sky-high expectations, the Filipino is determined to push his limits. As he heads into Jakarta with new goals and fearless ambition, Yulo is ready to show the world that true champions never stop evolving.
