‘Has Gotten Worse’: Injury Prone Lexi Thompson Makes Concerning Health Update, Delaying Availability Before Retirement

It was sad news for many when Lexi Thompson announced her intention to take a break. But still, taking a much-needed hiatus was what seemed to be the best course of action, courtesy of an injury on her wrist. And now, in what can only be dubbed as bad luck upon misfortune, the injury only seems to worsen daily.
The 29-year-old golfer recently shared a post on her Instagram profile mentioning the same. “Hope everybody is doing great!” wrote the athlete as she expressed gratitude for getting some time off due to the Asian Swing and the injury. “I’m very thankful I have some of this time off before the Florida swing,” said the golfer as she alluded to the final two events of the 2024 LPGA Tour schedule.
Lexi Thompson then also recounted the injury she had suffered before pointing out how she was still not completely recovered from the same. “Unfortunately my hand pain has gotten worse as of recently,” she wrote, “Taken it day by day not trying to push it too hard and giving myself the rest that’s needed. Got to get back to pain-free hopefully for the end of year.” Well, if everything goes according to plans, we can see a fully recovered LPGA Tour pro in good condition by the start of the ANNIKA Driver by Gainbridge on November 14. But if the injury persists even after a month, then she will have to miss the event hosted by Annika Sorenstam so as to tee off at the finale.

But even so, the recent update does sound a bit concerning for the golfer. Especially since she had teed off three weeks in a row since the 2024 Solheim Cup. Moreover, the golfer had traveled from Seattle to Mainville to Arizona for the same, causing it to be a bit difficult for the wrist. “Being my third week in a row, it’s been a bit rough on my hand again,” wrote Thompson in an Instagram post. “So I’m happy to have these next 4-5 weeks off to get some rest, make sure I’m 100% to finish the year, and put in the work as usual.”
What’s more, the thought of not being able to witness the golfer tee off professionally on the LPGA Tour would certainly not be happy news for many of her fans. Although they would wish only the best for the athlete and her future, her retirement from the game coupled with the recent hiatus sure does seem like a big blow for her admirers. They can only hope she recovers completely and goes forward with her earlier plans.
Where will Lexi Thompson tee off next?

A reporter had asked her about the rest of the 2024 schedule ahead of the Solheim Cup. When faced with the query, the golfer had mentioned how she would tee it up at the Kroger Queen City Championship and the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship before heading to Florida. “For the rest of this year I plan to play the following two weeks in Cincinnati and then in Arkansas,” said the pro. “Then I’ll play the Florida swing at the end of the year.”
Lexi Thompson sure did keep her promise as she participated in the same and finished T19 and T17 in Cincinnati and Arkansas, respectively. And as per her plans, she is set to tee off at the final two events on Tour in Florida, the ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge and the CME Group Tour Championship. But will she be able to do it? The flared-up wrist sure does paint a bleak picture for the athlete, especially after her recent Instagram post!
