FOREST ACRES, S.C. (WIS) – The Lexington Medical Center and the City of Forest Acres will host Tuesday’s 20th annual Christmas tree lighting event.
The event will occur from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Forest Park Shopping Center (4711 Forest Drive.)
City of Forest Acres Mayor Andrews and the city council will light the tree at around 6:15 p.m.
Event-goers will be able to select from 16 different food and beverage vendors. More than 20 local businesses and non-profits will also participate in the event.
Officials said the free event will offer kids activities like face painting, balloon animals, hot chocolate, pictures with Santa and the Grinch and more.
The event will also include performances by the Satchelford Sensations, an all-boys choir, the AC FLORA marching band and varsity cheerleaders, the Palmetto Performing Arts Company and Performing team dancers and a karate demonstration by Legacy Martial Arts.
State Representatives Beth Bernstein and Heather Bauer, and Park onRichland County Council Members Don Weaver and Tyra Little will be at the event.the
Parking is free and available on site at the Cardinal Crossing Parking Deck, behind Lowes Foods, or at city hall, FAPD and Gills Creek Memorial Park on-site
The Forest Acres Police Department will issue a traffic advisory on Tuesday advising all traffic headed into Columbia on Forest Drive to use an alternate route.
Two lanes, one on either side to and from Columbia or I77, will be reserved for event traffic only which could create additional congestion on the well-traveled Forest Drive. Officers will be out directing traffic along with digital signage advising drivers of the change in traffic flow.
