Chemicals in Chic-Fil-A send 3 to hospital, prompts HAZMAT response

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – The Columbia Richland Fire Department said three people were taken to a hospital after chemical products made many feel unwell inside the Chick-fil-A on Garners Ferry Road in Columbia.
The fire department said two cleaning chemicals were mixed after being poured down a drain that was backed up, creating an odor inside the building.
According to fire officials, the restaurant was evacuated as firefighters, including HAZMAT units 1 and 2, worked to solve the issue and ventilate the inside.
Thirteen people were checked on on the scene by medical services, with three of those patients being taken to a local hospital.
Out of caution, authorities said the restaurant has chosen to remain close for the remainder of the day.
