Meet CODI. The robot has a long flexible arm and eyes on one side to mimick a sonographer while they’re operating it. CODI could be in rural clinics in Wisconsin next year to help perform patients’ ultrasounds.
TitletownTech and Prevea Health are partnering with Cobionix, a medical robotics company based in Canada, to bring CODI to patients in Wisconsin. CODI is a collaborative medical robot that can perform ultrasounds operated by a sonographer from afar.
Diagnostic medical sonographers, also known as ultrasound techs, at Prevea will use CODI to expand the scope of care around Wisconsin.
Dr. Ashok Rai, president and CEO of Prevea and venture partner at TitletownTech, said having CODI’s technology available will reduce the strain on sonographers.
Technicians will be able to use CODI to perform abdominal ultrasounds to monitor pregnancies and check how the liver, kidneys, or other organs are functioning. The robot will also be able to conduct echocardiograms, a type of ultrasound that diagnoses heart conditions.
Cobionix Corp CEO Matt Sefati hopes to eventually add more procedures that CODI can help perform.
