Yup, you read that right.
A poll by American River Wellness asked 3,016 drivers for the best independent gas station in the U.S., with two from Connecticut making the list.
One cracked the top 10: The RoadRunners Gas Station & Convenience Store on 2204 Silas Deane Hwy in Rocky Hill, which landed 7th overall, according to American River Wellness: “The RoadRunners Gas Station & Convenience Store, which was established locally on May 8, 2018, and incorporated as Razia Foodmart LLC under manager Asad Mumtaz, reflects its community roots as a Rocky Hill–based convenience hub providing fuel and quick-shop essentials.”
The Noble Gas Station in East Lyme also made the list at 75th overall, according to American River Wellness. Located on 51 Boston Post Rd, the gas station “is a locally founded and family-like–operated chain that was launched in 2013 in Hartford by partners with over 50 years of industry experience.
“It has since expanded throughout Connecticut with a focus on community-driven service and modern design. The station brings together upscale amenities, including EV charging, high-end car washes, sandwiches from Fuel America, Nardelli’s grinders, homemade ice cream, and clean, welcoming facilities, making it a neighborhood favorite for both locals and travelers.”
A CT woman left a corporate job to bake cookies. She grew a specialty cafe that makes much more
Curious which gas station snagged the top spot? That honor went to Rumpy’s Bakery & Deli in Gainesville, Texas, according to the poll.

“The gas stations on this list have always been more than just a place to fill your tank – they’re community touchpoints,” said Graham Sargent of American River Wellness. “What stood out in our survey is how much people cherish the quirks: the family-run bakery counter, the handwritten specials, even the old pumps. These stations prove that personality and care can turn a quick stop into something unforgettable.”
