L.A. Olympics Moves Two Sports Outside of California – You’ll Never Guess Where

The 2028 Olympics are set to take place in Los Angeles for the third time, but not every sport will be held in the Golden State.
Fans who are hoping to catch a softball game or canoe slalom will have to travel approximately 1,300 miles east. Both sports will be held far outside of California. In Oklahoma City, to be exact.
This will mark the first time the midwest city has hosted an Olympics.
The nation’s second largest city has vowed to not build any new structures for the 2028 games. With numerous sporting venues scattered throughout the city, Los Angeles is on a mission to save money after the devastating fires that ravaged the city in January.
“It would have been a massive effort, costing a tremendous amount of money, to replicate what is already here,” L.A. mayor Karen Bass told The New York Times after visiting the Oklahoma River.
In addition to the ideal canoe venue, OKC is already home to the nation’s largest softball stadium, Devon Park.
“Oklahoma City has hosted many international competitions at our unique, world-class whitewater and softball venues,” Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt previously said. “We are confident we will be an outstanding partner to LA28 in creating a dynamic environment for Olympians and fans. We are excited about the opportunity to support one of America’s great global cities, Los Angeles, and work closely with the LA28 organizing committee to ensure that the 2028 Olympic Games are a success.”
