A 71-year-old man Wednesday morning shot and killed his wife in their Fairview Township home before taking his own life, according to the county coroner’s office.
Fairview Township police were dispatched to the 100 block of Wilcox Drive just before 6:40 a.m. for the shooting. Officers found Donald Savidge and his 68-year-old wife, Ann Savidge, dead in one of the home’s bedrooms.
Both died from a gunshot wound to the head, the coroner’s office said. Donald’s manner of death was ruled a suicide while Ann’s was ruled a homicide.
Officials said the incident was contained to the home, but would not say the number of shots fired or if investigators recovered a gun. The coroner’s office responded to the address just after 10 a.m.
Public records show Donald Savidge was a nurse anesthetist and Ann Savidge was a registered nurse. The couple had lived at the Wilcox Drive home since 1999.
No autopsies will take place, but routine toxicology reports were obtained, the coroner’s office said. The couple’s next of kin have been notified of the deaths.
