A Sunday brunch-and-dance fundraiser is spotlighting maternal health and the work of a nonprofit dedicated to keeping moms alive.
On Dec. 7, 4Kira4Moms will host its “Move4Moms: Party with a Purpose Dance-A-Thon” at 433 Bishop Street NW. The event is raising awareness and resources for maternal health, especially for Black mothers most affected by the national maternal mortality crisis.
4Kira4Moms was founded by Charles Johnson after the tragic loss of his wife, Kira Johnson, following what should have been a routine C-section. Determined to turn his personal pain into action, Charles launched the nonprofit in 2017 to fight for equitable maternal care, better birth outcomes, policy change, and wrap-around support for grieving families.
“This is about protecting moms, giving them care, respect and dignity — movement becomes medicine,” Johnson said. “Our mothers deserve joyful pathways to wellness during the holidays and beyond.”
Proceeds from Sunday’s event will support 4Kira4Moms’ maternal-health programs: advocacy, public education, peer support, and family services for those impacted by maternal morbidity and mortality.
