SAGINAW, MI — Boxes-On-Break is teaming up with Kroger to launch a three-day food drive aimed at ensuring local students have access to meals during the upcoming 16-day winter break.
The “STUFF THE BUS” in-store food drive will run Thursday to Saturday, Dec. 11-13, at Kroger, 4672 State in Saginaw Township. The grocery chain will host a school bus on-site for collection and announce a contribution to help Boxes-On-Break reach its goal of providing 750 food boxes to students at Saginaw Public Schools and Francis Reh Academy.
Many local students depend on school for their daily meals, creating a food access gap during winter break, organizers said. Boxes-On-Break aims to provide children with reliable, easy-to-prepare food during school closures.
Boxes-On-Break — or BOB, as founder Clint Bryant calls it for short — is an initiative to pack and deliver hundreds of boxes of food to students in Saginaw during the upcoming winter break.
“This started as an idea just a month ago, and it’s grown quickly,” Bryant, a former member of the Saginaw City Council, said in a statement. “Kroger’s generosity gives this effort a strong lift, but we still need the strong and steadfast support of the greater Saginaw community. This is about our kids and removing the barriers no child should face.”
Community members can help by donating food at the Kroger location during the three-day drive or by contributing funds through BOBsaginaw.org or SaginawFoundation.org.
Volunteers will pack and deliver the 750 food boxes directly to students’ homes on Sunday and Monday, Dec. 28-29, at SVRC Marketplace, 203 S. Washington Ave. in Saginaw. Those interested in volunteering can register through the organization’s website.
