The Anne Arundel County Police Department (AACOPD) has launched its new 12-hour patrol shift schedule with the goal of prioritizing officer wellness, improving work-life balance and enhancing the department’s ability to serve the community.
The announcement made on Jan. 15 marks the most significant operational shift in 45 years, according to police.

The new schedule replaces the 6-and-3 rotation, and will reduce the number of scheduled workdays from 243 to 182 or 183 days each year. Officers will have every other Friday, Saturday and Sunday off of work. They will work two or three-day work periods with
