The ushering in of a new year often comes with resolutions. Between newfound motivation to change habits and the fresh start a new calendar year offers, Eugene residents may be looking for places in town that help them focus on their goals for 2026.
For gymgoers in the Cal Young neighborhood, a new fitness center is opening for business. This new gym will be joining the likes of Orangetheory Fitness and the Oakway Fit Health Club as a space where strength and determination are celebrated.
Here’s what to know about the new fitness club coming to Coburg Road this year.
What’s that new business in the Sheldon Plaza off Coburg Road?
The Sheldon Plaza on Coburg Road is home to a grocery store, restaurants, a nail salon, a barber shop and more. These tenants are soon welcoming a new neighbor as Planet Fitness aims to open a gym at 1560 Coburg Road.
Once open, the Coburg Road location will be the second Planet Fitness in Eugene. Planet Fitness already operates a location at 2370 W. 11th Ave. The gym is taking over a former Rite Aid Pharmacy. Lane County property records indicate the 27,900-square-foot building was constructed in 1975.
The new gym will include state-of-the-art equipment for strength, cardio and functional training needs. Premium, or Black Card, members can use the gym’s spa-like services for access to massage chairs, tanning beds and red light application.
Since the business’s founding in 1992, Planet Fitness has established more than 2,700 locations across the U.S., the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Canada, Panama, Mexico and Australia.
When will the Planet Fitness location on Coburg Road open?
Eugene’s newest Planet Fitness does not have a firm opening date, but the Coburg Road location aims to be open by mid-March.
The gym is running a pre-grand opening sale on memberships. Standard memberships are the usual $15 a month rate, but the sale offers the gym’s premium membership for $19.99 a month instead of $24.99 a month.
