Alaska youth return with scores of medals from 2026 Arctic Winter Games

The planes that brought the caravan of athletes, coaches, parents and volunteers home to Alaska from the 2026 Arctic Winter Games in Whitehorse, Canada earlier this month were packing a lot of extra hardware after Team Alaska showed up and showed out in force at this year’s annual event.
Athletes from across the state came together under one united banner and racked up over 200 gold, silver and bronze medals in both individual and team sport ranging from snowboarding and skiing to futsal and Native Youth Olympic games.
There were several athletes who medaled in multiple events and even a handful who earned gold more than once.
Don Heflin competed in NYO events in the U17 male division and won three gold medals with marks of 8 foot, 8 inches in the One Foot High Kick, 7-foot-10 in the Two Foot High Kick and 7-foot-4 in the Alaskan High Kick.
Eva Driggs competed in the U15 Female Biathlon Ski and won three gold medals with times of 26 minutes, 55.3 seconds in the 5K individual race, 14:24.9 in the 3K Sprint and 27:58.1 in the 5K Mass Start.
Grace Baker competed in Figure Skating in the Class 3 U18 Female division and won a trio of gold medals with scores of 19.50 points in the Short Program, 31.71 points in the Free Skate and 51.21 in the Combined.
Lily Poray competed in the Biathlon Ski U18 Female division and won a pair of gold medals with times of 37:50.3 in the 7.5K Individual and 37:18.9 in the 7.5K Mass Start.
Isaac Yager competed in cross country skiing in the U14 Male division and won a pair of gold medals with times of 11:25.80 in the 3.75km Interval Start Freestyle and 12:04.80 in the 3.75 km Mass Start Classic.
Parker Kenick competed in nine different NYO events in the open males division and won gold in three with marks of 8-foot-0 in the Two Foot High Kick, 7-foot-8 in the Alaskan High Kick and 5-foot-5 in the One Hand Reach.
Grace Post competed in the Biathlon Snowshoe in the U18 Female division and won two gold medals with times of 18:07.8 in the 2.25K Sprint and 35:12.3 in the 4K Mass Start.
