Apple has released new firmware for AirPods Pro 2, the first update since iOS 18.1 added support for powerful new hearing health features. AirPods 4 got an update too. Here are the details.
Update 11/12: One day later, Apple has now released the same firmware builds for developers too.
New firmware is first since iOS 18.1’s hearing health features
The last firmware release for AirPods Pro 2 was build 7B19.
That update launched shortly before iOS 18.1 introduced Apple’s trio of new hearing health features:
Hearing Aid
Hearing Test
Hearing Protection
Today, the company has released build 7B21 for all AirPods Pro 2 models.
It is unknown exactly what changes the latest firmware introduces, but it likely offers refinements and fixes to some of the new features introduced in the previous build.
AirPods 4, similarly, were updated recently to 7B19 as well, but without the hearing health features that are Pro-exclusive.
Today, Apple has released a new 7B20 build for AirPods 4 users.
Apple’s AirPods firmware page has information on the updates. These are the standard “Bug fixes and other improvements” releases.
As with all AirPods firmware updates, you can’t manually trigger the download of the new firmware, but rather your AirPods will take care of it themselves in the days ahead.
