The death of former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney’s sister-in-law Carrie Romney was ruled a suicide Tuesday, the Los Angeles medical examiner’s office said in a statement. She was 64. c
Carrie Romney reportedly fell from the rooftop of a parking structure in Valencia, Calif. and died of blunt traumatic injuries on Oct. 10, according to records released by the examiner’s office. Her body was found in an alley, according to public records.
Her body was examined Oct. 11, and her cause and manner of death were certified Tuesday, the medical examiner’s office said.
The full report of the investigation into her death will be released “at a future date,” according to the office.
A spokesperson for Mitt Romney couldn’t immediately be reached for comment on Tuesday.

“Our family is heartbroken by the loss of Carrie, who brought warmth and love to all our lives,” Romney said in a statement to People magazine in October. “We ask for privacy during this difficult time.”
The medical examiner’s office was unable to determine a cause of death after initially examining Carrie Romney’s body and requested “additional testing and/or studies,” according to previous Globe reporting.
Carrie Romney was married to Mitt Romney’s brother, Scott, who filed for divorce in June, according to reporting by People.
Romney served as Massachusetts governor from 2003 to 2007 before running for president twice, in 2008 and 2012. The Republican served as a senator for Utah starting in 2019 before announcing he wouldn’t seek re-election in 2024.
