CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – The South Carolina Department of Social Services says a Charleston County woman got more than $30,000 in fraudulent Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits.
Cory Baker, 48, was charged with one count of fraudulent acquisition or use of food stamps with a value of more than $10,000.
State agents said Baker claimed four children were living in her home from Oct. 1, 2017, until July 31, 2022, that were not in her custody.
The falsified records led to an overpayment of $36,201 in SNAP benefits, the agency said.
Baker was booked in the Charleston County Detention Center and released on a personal recognizance bond.
