CLEVELAND (WJW) – The Cincinnati Police Department is mourning the loss of a Cleveland native and Cincinnati police officer.
According to the Greater Cincinnati Police Historical Society on March 16, 33-year-old Police Officer Marcellus Keyon Jones suffered a “fatal medical emergency” on March 15.
According to the Historical Society, Jones was born in Cleveland in 1991.
He attended the Success Technical Academy High School before heading to Bowling Green State University to major in communications and then to the University of Akron to major in police science.
According to the Historical Society, Jones joined the Wilberforce University Police Department as an officer in August 2018. He was then promoted to sergeant in February 2021.
Jones later joined the Cincinnati Police Department on October 3, 2021, as a police recruit and was eventually promoted to a police officer and assigned to a patrol district.
According to the Historical Society, Jones was transferred to the Youth Services Section and assigned as a School Resource Officer at Hyde Park School within the last year.
The Cincinnati Police Department posted to their Facebook page on Monday saying, “Police Chief Teresa Theetge requests that all sworn members of the Cincinnati Police Department shroud their badges in memory of Officer Marcellus Jones. Officer Jones suffered an unexpected medical emergency. Please keep Officer Jones’ family, friends, and CPD School Resource Officers in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
