CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – Wedding bells were ringing at Trident Medical Center this afternoon. A 76-year-old lung cancer patient got married at the same place he’s been receiving treatment.
The room was filled with hospital staff, friends and loved ones all in celebration of the big day.
Edgar ‘Lee’ Hayes and Cori Gail Harris met while Harris was working at an IGA grocery store as a cashier. Hayes kept going to the store to speak to her. As they grew closer he asked her on a date and also if she’d accompany him to his cancer treatments at Trident Medical Center. Since that’s where much of their relationship blossomed it was only fitting to have the ceremony there too.
“Every day above ground is a blessing and to have her by my side is another one,” said Hayes.
The couple got emotional as a heartfelt song was performed on an acoustic guitar during the ceremony.
When asked about a honeymoon, the couple said they do not have any specific plans but are considering doing something special this weekend.
