Denton homicide victim identified as 20-year-old

Officials have identified the victim of a homicide in Denton last week as 20-year-old Dylan Wayne Gurley, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office.
Denton police are investigating Gurley’s death as a homicide after Gurley was found unresponsive with traumatic injuries in a home July 23, according to a police news release.

Officers were dispatched to a report of an unconscious person at a home in the 3700 block of Holland Lane, according to the release.

Police identified Gurley as a woman in a news release last week. The Tarrant County medical examiner identified him as male.

Gurley was found with traumatic injuries and taken to Medical City Denton Hospital, where Gurley was pronounced dead, according to police and medical examiner records.
Gurley, who lived in Little Elm, died of blunt and sharp force injuries with strangulation, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner.

Police did not say if a suspect had been identified or arrested, but detectives believe there is no active threat to the public, according to the Police Department’s statement last week.
