FX’s The Bear is known for its intensity, and Max just released a new medical drama that perfectly recreates those anxiety-inducing, stressful situations. The Bear has become one of the best Hulu original series precisely because of how intense it is. Critics and audiences alike praise the show for being a non-stop source of anxiety and drama, and for putting viewers on the edge of their seat for every minute of every episode. The Bear is truly more intense than any other show out there, or at least it was, until Max came out with its new replacement.
One of the only bad parts about The Bear is how few episodes there are, and how long it takes for new episodes to come out. The Bear season 4 isn’t expected until June 2025, a full year after the previous season ended. While that is better than most shows in the era of streaming, it’s still an interminably long period of time for viewers who can’t get enough of the fast-paced and suspenseful restaurant drama. Luckily, Max has a new medical drama that is perfect to bide the time until The Bear season 4’s release.
Max’s The Pitt Is Just As Anxiety-Inducing As FX’s The Bear
The Pitt Has All The High-Stakes Workplace Drama That The Bear Is Known For

Anyone who is missing The Bear’s intense situations and anxiety-inducing workplace drama should check out Max’s The Pitt. Like in The Bear, it seems like The Pitt is designed to put viewers right in the middle of the action, but it switches the Chicago restaurant for a Pittsburgh emergency room. With doctors and nurses rushing around trying to save patients and yelling out medications to push and scans to order, The Pitt feels extremely similar to The Bear’s constant kitchen call-outs and dinner rushes. There’s no better show to replicate the drowning feeling every episode of The Bear is infused with.
Related Is Max’s New Show The Pitt An ER Spinoff? The genre and lead actor of The Pitt have caused some eager audiences to wonder if Max’s new medical drama starring Noah Wyle is an ER reboot.
Even the main characters of both shows are similar. In The Bear, Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) has to juggle an untrained staff, mounting bills, family pressures, and his growing anxiety about his brother’s death and the restaurant he was left with. In The Pitt, Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle) has to manage a battalion of doctors, nurses, and medical students, try to overcome both nursing and bed shortages in the hospital, and deal with his trauma from the COVID-19 pandemic. Both Carmy and Robby’s worries are palpable in their respective shows, and their anxieties seem to bleed through the screen to create truly intense experiences.
The Pitt Even Has A Similar Brand Of Humor To The Bear

The Pitt doesn’t just recreate The Bear’s intensity, though, it also mirrors its sense of humor. There was a bit of controversy over whether The Bear should be considered a comedy, but the show definitely has its funny moments. Whether it’s Carmy and Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) throwing insults at each other or accidental stabbings in the kitchen, The Bear is filled with hilarious scenes. Much like The Bear’s sarcastic and borderline mean jokes, The Pitt is also a comedy in a very loose sense, and it also has its moments of sarcastic humor interspersed in the chaos of the emergency room.
Based on how much the shows have in common, the only real differences between The Pitt and The Bear are the cities they take place in and the type of work they focus on.
In just the premiere of The Pitt, Robby had a string of good jokes while talking with Gloria (Michael Hyatt), and Dr. Langdon (Patrick Ball) got a few quips off at the other doctors’ and nurses’ expense. A naked man even ran through the entire ER while nurses tried and failed to sedate him. Both The Pitt and The Bear break up some of their most tense moments with the same brand of humor. Based on how much the shows have in common, the only real differences between The Pitt and The Bear are the cities they take place in and the type of work they focus on.
