Tottenham midfielder Yves Bissouma suffered a serious-looking ankle injury and had to be stretchered off on international duty
Several Tottenham Hotspur players have teamed up with their respective nations for the ongoing international break.
New Spurs boss Thomas Frank has not been fortunate when it comes to injuries since arriving at White Hart Lane, having already faced several setbacks before and after the start of the 2025/26 campaign. He has had to cope without key players such as James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke. And it looks like the Dane’s bad luck with injuries is set to continue.
Yves Bissouma was a surprise inclusion in the Malian national team squad for the World Cup qualifier against Madagascar, having missed the 2025/26 season so far with a knee injury. He is yet to make a competitive appearance under Thomas Frank and was notably left out of Tottenham’s squad for the UEFA Super Cup fixture against Paris Saint-Germain due to disciplinary issues.
The central midfielder was transfer-listed in the summer and he was close to joining Turkish side Galatasaray, only for an untimely knee injury scuppering a deal. After overcoming a knee injury, the 29-year-old was spotted in team training ahead of Tottenham’s Champions League fixture against Bodo/Glimt.
Yves Bissouma injured again!
Eyebrows were raised when Mali boss Tom Saintfiet named Bissouma his squad for the game against Madagascar. The midfielder entered the fray in the 66th minute with Mali winning 3-0, but was stretchered off injured six minutes later.
According to a report from Football London, Bissouma intercepted a loose pass from a Madagascar corner only to be challenged by an opposition player as he tried to evade with the ball which left him in a crumpled heap on the pitch. He looked visibly distressed holding his left ankle and smacked the turf consistently, as the medical team rushed on the pitch. The Tottenham man was unable to walk off the pitch on his own and required a stretcher to take him off.
The African enforcer looks to have suffered a worrying setback on his return to action and could be set for a long spell on the sidelines. Earlier this month, Frank suggested that Bissouma will be slowly integrated into his squad if he proves himself in training.
Thus, the latest injury for the Issia-born star, who is in the final 10 months of his contract at the north London club, will be a massive disappointment for the Spurs gaffer. Until and unless the injury is given time to settle down and scans are done, nobody can predict the severity of Bissouma’s ankle issue.
