LA CROSSE, Wis. (WEAU) – Health experts at Gundersen Health System say it’s time to get your vaccine as flu season approaches.
The health system says they have started to see cases of the flu rise in the region in the last few weeks.
One doctor with Gundersen says the best way you can get protected from the flu is by getting this year’s Influenza vaccination.
The vaccine is especially recommended for those that are at a higher risk of serious side effects from the flu.
“Anyone is susceptible to Influenza, even healthy people can have serious problems, but there are some people who are at higher risk of developing serious flu-related complications if they get sick. This includes pregnant people, infants and very young children, older adults and people with chronic medical conditions like heart disease, asthma or diabetes.” Bryany Weigel, the vaccine program manager, said.
Weigel says there are other things you can do to prevent the spread of the flu this season, including frequently washing your hands, avoiding touching your face, covering your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze and staying home if you do get sick.
