A former Tufts Medical Center anesthesiologist was sentenced Tuesday for attempted sex trafficking of a child.
Sadeq Ali Quarishi, 47, of Boston, who was convicted for the crime in October 2024, was sentenced yesterday to 10 years in prison followed by five years of supervised release.
“As a doctor, Quraishi was in a position of public trust,” said Michael Krol, special agent in charge for Homeland Security Investigations in New England, in a statement from the district attorney’s office. “He abused that trust when he actively sought out and agreed to pay to sexually abuse a child.”

In November 2022, Quarishi responded to an online advertisement and agreed to pay $250 “for a sex act to be performed by a 14-year-old girl.” The posting was part of an undercover operation by law enforcement that meant to identify and arrest people seeking to pay for sex with children. As part of the operation, law enforcement posted an advertisement online offering commercial sex, and the girls were said to be 12 and 14 years old.
An undercover agent posing as the seller of the two girls coordinated over text with Quarishi, who obtained cash from an ATM and drove from his Boston home to a Waltham hotel, where he met the undercover agent, confirmed he had the money, and accepted a keycard to the room.

He was then arrested while “in possession of exactly $250,” officials said.
Quarishi’s charge of attempted sex trafficking of a child holds a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison.
“This sentence reflects our dedication to identifying those who prey on our most vulnerable and holding them accountable for their inhumane acts,” said United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts Leah Foley in the statement.
