Former President Bill Clinton Hospitalized: What We Know

What’s New
Former President Bill Clinton, 78, was admitted to MedStar Georgetown University Hospital on Monday for testing and observation after developing a fever, according to Angel Ureña, his deputy chief of staff.
It is not an emergency situation, NBC News first reported.
Newsweek has emailed the Clinton Foundation for additional comment on Monday evening.
Why It Matters
Since leaving office in 2001, the two-term Democratic president has encountered several health concerns.
In 2004, Clinton underwent a quadruple bypass operation at New York-Presbyterian Hospital and returned to the same hospital in 2010 for another heart procedure, during which two stents were inserted into a coronary artery.
Clinton responded by embracing a largely vegan diet that saw him lose weight and improved health.
In 2021, he was hospitalized for six days in California due to a sepsis infection that had spread to his bloodstream.

What To Know
Clinton served as the 42nd president of the United States from 1993 to 2001. He previously served as Arkansas’ attorney general from 1977 to 1979 and as the state’s governor from 1979 to 1981, and again from 1983 to 1992. He has spoken at every Democratic National Convention (DNC) since 1976.
Clinton’s wife, Hillary Clinton, served as U.S. secretary of state under President Barack Obama from 2009 to 2013, and was a Democratic senator representing New York from 2001 to 2009. Hillary Clinton became the party’s nominee in the 2016 presidential election, making history as the first woman to win a presidential nomination by a major U.S. political party. She went on to win the popular vote but lost the Electoral College and the presidential election to Donald Trump.
This fall, Bill Clinton was active on the campaign trail for Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris. He has also maintained a busy travel schedule since the election, following the release of his new book, Citizen: My Life After the White House.
