The “Project Flower” economic-development project, which could be located in Winston-Salem, has resurfaced after the unidentified hemp product company opted to conduct more due diligence.
The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners posted a legal notice on Sunday for a 2 p.m. Oct. 9 public hearing on the incentive request. The company is expected to be identified at the hearing.
According to the incentive application, the company is a four-year-old manufacturer of hemp-derived wellness products, such as CBD extract and CBD body care.
“Their products are plant-based (botanical) and do not involve animal testing in its processes,” according to the application. “The company has both domestic and international clients, and currently utilizes a contract manufacturer for production.”
The request was updated to include the county submitting on the company’s behalf an application for approval of a $400,000 building reuse grant from the N.C. Commerce Department.
According to previous legal notices, the company would locate all manufacturing in one 12,000-square-foot facility within Forsyth. The company is also considering a location in Maryland.
Public hearings about the incentive packages were scheduled to go before commissioners and the Winston-Salem City Council in June.
Both hearings were postponed following what Mayor Allen Joines called at that time
