Futurise Sdn Bhd and the Malaysian Sports Aviation Federation (MSAF) have forged an alliance through a Memorandum of Understanding to advance and elevate the burgeoning field of drone sports in Malaysia.
In a statement, Futurise said this partnership aims to develop guidelines and manuals, as well as pioneer dedicated testbeds to ensure the highest standards of safety and performance. Additionally, it will cultivate a cutting-edge ecosystem for drone sports by combining Futurise’s regulatory expertise with MSAF’s leadership in sports aviation. Together, both parties are poised to propel Malaysia to the forefront of this dynamic and innovative field.
Under the terms of the MOU, Futurise will spearhead the creation of new ecosystems and leverage its extensive expertise to develop comprehensive regulatory frameworks for drone sports. Concurrently, MSAF will collaborate closely with the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia to craft robust regulatory frameworks, guidelines, and manuals specific to drone sports. This collaboration is poised to not only enhance the regulatory landscape but also position Malaysia as a global leader in drone sports technology and innovation.
The collaboration encompasses a broad range of initiatives aimed at fostering partner interactions, exploring new collaborations, and developing sustainable business models. Significantly, this MOU represents a milestone in advancing drone sports in Malaysia, perfectly aligning with the nation’s goal of becoming a global leader in emerging technologies and sports innovation.
Malaysia’s drone industry is on the cusp of remarkable growth, projected to reach US$263 million (RM12.13 billion), capturing 4.3% of the global market share by year-end according to Bernama. With a CAGR of 21.44%, the industry could be valued at US$7.27 billion (RM34 billion) by 2029. This rapid expansion underscores the vast potential of drone technology across multiple sectors, including sports, and reflects Malaysia’s unwavering commitment to advancing high-tech industries.
“This collaboration marks a significant step forward in our mission to propel Malaysia to the forefront of drone sports and technology. By combining MSAF’s regulatory expertise and Futurise’s pioneering spirit in creating robust ecosystems, we are poised to set new standards in this exciting field,” said Nurhaqimy Ismail, president of the Malaysian Sports Aviation Federation.
“I look forward to the innovative programmes and collaborations that will emerge from this partnership, setting the stage for Malaysia to become a leader in drone sports and an incubator for groundbreaking technological achievements,” he added.
Meanwhile, Rosihan Zain, CEO of Futurise, highlighted the transformative impact of drone technology across diverse sectors such as agriculture and defense. “Drone technology holds immense potential as a game-changer in industry transformation,” he said. “Through Aksadron, we are dedicated to equipping Malaysian talents with advanced UAV expertise through comprehensive training programmes.”
