GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) – A Georgetown County Detention Center inmate has died after experiencing a medical condition in the center’s detox unit.
Georgetown County Sheriff’s spokesman said a woman was placed in the detention center medical provider’s detox protocol after she was arrested Friday for a shoplifting incident by the Georgetown Police Department.
Staff saw her experiencing a medical emergency Saturday afternoon and the medical team provided medical assistance before Georgetown County EMS arrived.
She was later pronounced dead after being transferred to the Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating the inmate’s death.
