Like a pampering parent overindulging their child, Google has a longstanding history of making sure its workers are properly accoutered in the workplace. The company offers an array of perks, ranging from the standard like medical coverage and flexible time off. But it also formerly provided more outlandish benefits in the form of on-site laundry services, hair cuts and nap pods. Now, when it comes to health care support, the Mountain Valley-based company is taking its on-site wellness centers to the next level.
Google is expanding the number of wellness centers for employees in the United States.
The company announced that it’s expanding the number of wellness centers across the United States, as reported by 9to5Google, in a bid to support increasingly more Google employees — dubbed Googlers. The folks at 9to5Google, who received the news, also note that the company’s move is “to coincide with the return to office trend.”

Google opened its first wellness center in 2010 in the Mountain View/Bay Area. Since then, it has already expanded to New York, Cambridge and Seattle/Kirkland. Now, the company is bringing the centers to locations in Austin, Boulder and Chicago. Tens of thousands of Googlers already receive health services from the centers. So, it stands to reason that the expansion will bring support to even more employees.
The company’s aim through the centers is to provide on-campus health care services to all employees. The repository of services include the usual health care amenities like annual check-ups and flu shots. But the program also provides mental health, physical therapy and chiropractic care, health coaching and lab orders.
In addition to more locations, the expansion is also expected to bring more services to Googlers, such as onsite pharmacy, dermatology, gynecology, and others.
Further, our friends at 9to5Google add that, while support now also be available to international employees visiting the United States.
The company’s move to bring more health care support to employees is a welcome move, especially on the mental health front. A recent report highlighted growing concerns surrounding the intersection between rising stress levels and working in the technology industry. Therefore, the company is certainly on the right track.
