Android smartphones can track and keep a record of basic health and fitness activities. However, the support of advanced health management across multiple apps remains challenging. To address this, Google has updated its medical tracking tool, the Health Connect, for Android with symptom monitoring support. The new version also brings support for advanced health and alcohol consumption tracking.
Health Connect brings symptom monitoring support to the Android Medical Tracking system
Health Connect was originally debuted in the year 2022. However, at launch, it supported just over 40 data types across a small number of categories. Google has steadily expanded the list of support apps and services. And now with the latest Android 16, the Health Connect has added support for yoga and meditation sessions, built-in step tracking, and structured medical records such as allergies, vaccinations, and lab results.
With these new additions, the tech giant aims to make the Android medical tracking system more comprehensive and useful. Moreover, the company is also refining how users interact with their health information. Recent Android Canary builds show a redesigned Health Connect settings page that prioritizes connected apps instead of recent data access. Further, Permission Controls are now grouped by category, allowing users to manage access more efficiently.
It will soon be able to recognize common diseases using health information
Apart from the aforementioned changes, Google is also preparing a detailed symptom tracking feature. References indicate that the system will soon be able to recognize conditions, such as abdominal pain, fever, insomnia, respiratory issues, nausea, and joint stiffness. Alcohol consumption tracking also appears to be in development, with support for a wide range of beverages.
Using the provided data and health tracking inputs, the system will be able to more accurate personal health profile. However, Health Connect still depends largely on third-party apps to provide data. Aside from step tracking, Google does not collect most information directly.
