Former Grey’s Anatomy actor, Eric Dane, lands a guest role in another medical drama, NBC’s Brilliant Minds. And, his character in the show is diagnosed with the exact same condition he has in real life.
Dane revealed in April 2025 that he has ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). In the series, he will portray Matthew, a firefighter who doesn’t know how to tell his family about his illness and seeks the help of Dr. Oliver Wolf (Zachary Quinto). The actor will appear in Brilliant Minds season 2, episode 9, set to air on November 24, 2025.
Dane has been very open about his battle against ALS. He continues to express his gratitude for the resources that he has access to that a lot of other patients don’t. He also explained in a previous statement that he felt so lucky that he was still able to work and how excited he was to return for the upcoming season of Euphoria.
I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of Euphoria next week. I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.
The actor is also a spokesperson for a nonprofit organization called I Am ALS, which was founded by Brian Wallach, who was diagnosed with the disease in 2017, and his wife, Sandra Abrevaya. Along with his philanthropic work, he also discussed his desire to use his large platform to help people.
In an interview with the Washington Post, Dane explained how many people have approached him and spoken about losing family and friends to ALS. However, despite the tragic circumstances that he and countless others are suffering from ALS, he is still able to see the little joys that life has to offer and how he can spend the rest of his life helping people cope. Not to be overly morbid, but you know if I’m going out, I’m gonna go out helping somebody.”
Brilliant Minds is a medical drama TV show based on two books by author Oliver Sacks, The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat and An Anthropologist on Mars, that follows neurologist, Dr. Wolf and his team. The series focuses on both their personal and professional lives.
