Health scare hits Australia A in Kanpur, 4 players suffer infection, one hospitalised

Australia A tour of India took an unexpected and dramatic turn in Kanpur, leaving fans stunned. After dominating India A in the second ODI on October 3 with a thumping nine-wicket win, the Australia A team suddenly found itself in trouble as a health scare hit their camp.
As reported by a Jagran News journalist, four Australia A players fell sick after eating chicken during their stay in Kanpur for the ongoing three-match unofficial ODI series against India A. The team dinner at a hotel in Kanpur turned into a nightmare for the players.

The situation turned serious when the star fast bowler Henry Thornton’s condition worsened, forcing the team management to rush him to Regency Hospital with the help of their local manager for further treatment.

Doctors have confirmed that all four players were suffering from a stomach infection, most likely caused by the chicken dish they had. Henry Thornton’s illness was the most severe, and he had to spend two days under strict medical supervision at the hospital.
While the other three Australian players managed to recover without hospitalization, Thornton’s condition raised alarm in the camp. Fortunately, the medical staff acted quickly, and he has now been recovering well.

Team officials later revealed that Thornton had been feeling uneasy with gastro-related issues even before arriving in Kanpur, which may have worsened after having the chicken. The good news is that the fast bowler is reportedly now back with the squad.
However, Thornton already missed the second unofficial test against India A. They won the game by nine wickets via the DLS method, as the tourists had to chase the target of 160 runs after the second innings was reduced to 25 overs due to rain.

Parag played a brilliant knock of 58 runs off 54 balls before falling to Sutherland, and his loss sparked another batting collapse as India A slipped to 136/6. Later, Tilak anchored the innings with a fighting 94, but wickets kept falling from the other end.
Harshit Rana’s 21 off 13 and Ravi Bishnoi’s 26 helped India A reach 246 before they were bowled out with more than four overs left. Edwards led the Australian attack with four wickets. Chasing a revised target of 160 in 25 overs after rain, Australia A turned the game into a batting show.
Jake Fraser-McGurk smashed 36 off 20 before Mackenzie Harvey and Cooper Connolly added 103 runs in just 59 balls.
