Tottenham Hotspur star Dominic Solanke provides fresh injury update on his recovery from ankle surgery
Tottenham Hotspur are sweating on fitness of key players ahead of the North London derby.
Spurs face Arsenal at Emirates Stadium on Sunday, and boss Thomas Frank has been handed two fitness concerns over the international break. Lucas Bergvall was sent back early to England from the Sweden camp after suffering a setback in his recovery from a concussion, while Pape Matar Sarr was forced off while playing for Senegal against Brazil.
The Lilywhites were also without influential attacker Mohammed Kudus before the international break and also lost Randal Kolo Muani to a jaw fracture. As far as long-term casualties go, James Maddison is unlikely to feature this season after sustaining an ACL rupture on his right knee, while Dejan Kulusevski hasn’t kicked a ball since his knee surgery back in May. And then there is Dominic Solanke.
Dominic Solanke has been battling with persistent ankle problems since the start of summer. He missed the majority of the pre-season as a result. The centre-forward has played just 31 minutes of football this campaign thus far and decided to undergo a minor surgery after feeling an issue with his ankle again.
Tottenham striker provides fresh injury update
Thomas Frank was hoping to have Solanke back fit after the November international break. However, he did not provide a proper timescale of his return before addressing the media ahead of the Manchester United game.
Now, Solanke provided a new update as he continues his recovery from injury. After persistent injury setbacks, the England international has been trying to stay positive, as far as his recent activity on Instagram is concerned. On Sunday, he wrote: “Little bit of life,” accompanied by several pictures of himself.
Solanke working hard to return to fitness
It is understandable why Tottenham are being extra cautious with Solanke. They do not want to rush the striker back into action after he has suffered recent setbacks regarding his ankle. A fully fit and firing Solanke would make a massive difference to the north London side’s attack and perhaps solve their goalscoring conundrum.
With Richarlison struggling and Kolo Muani set to spend weeks on the sidelines following jaw injury, having the quick and physical England striker back could be a big positive for Tottenham. It may still be some time until we finally see him on the pitch, though.
