A verbal altercation in a local bar turned violent when one of those involved in the dispute stabbed another person who tried to intervene, according to Kingston Police.
Just after 10 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025, Kingston Police and Frontenac Paramedics were dispatched to a reported assault involving a weapon that occurred at “an establishment located in the area of Princess Street and Bayridge Drive.” The location was Jimmy’s Sports Lounge, located in the shopping plaza on the north side of Princess Street just east of Bayridge Drive, where a number of Kingston Police vehicles and ambulances quickly pulled into the parking lot of the plaza directly in front of the bar.
That night, Frontenac Paramedics transported the victim to hospital, accompanied by a police escort, Kingston reporters observed on the scene. It also appeared that someone was arrested.

According to a press release from Kingston Police on Monday, Jan. 13, 2025, their responding officers “located the victim who was suffering from injuries to their hand and torso after being assaulted with a knife.” Police also located the accused assailant, whom police said, “remained on scene after other patrons came to the aid of the victim.”
“Through the course of investigation, it was determined that the accused and another individual got into a verbal argument inside the establishment, resulting in the accused brandishing a knife,” Kingston Police said.
“The victim attempted to interject and was subsequently assaulted by the accused.”
Police said the victim was transported to hospital and treated for “serious injuries.” As a result of their investigation, Kingston Police said, a 53-year-old from Kingston was arrested and charged with:
Two counts of assault with a weapon
Possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace
Carrying a concealed weapon
The accused person was taken to Kingston Police Headquarters where they were held for a bail hearing, according to the release.
In response to Kingstonist inquiries, Constable Anthony Colangeli, Media Relations Officer for Kingston Police, said that the accused person and the victim are known to one another. As such, police are not identifying the accused person to protect the victim’s identity, and also because the assault was “an isolated incident,” Colangeli explained.
