Every day and night, across the United States, thousands of people face medical emergencies that require one powerful, irreplaceable resource: Donated blood. Locally, throughout Lee Health, we need approximately 800 units each week to treat patients undergoing surgery, facing illness, or recovering from traumatic injuries. Because the need for blood never stops, we hope you’ll consider giving the gift of life this holiday season.
There is no substitute for blood. Its unique components help treat cancer, anemia and leukemia, and support patients recovering from illness or injury. Blood also has a relatively short shelf life, so maintaining a healthy supply requires frequent donations.
To meet this need, our Lee Health Blood Centers and community blood drives, which are staffed by our Blood Mobiles that visit high schools, churches, retirement communities, and other locations throughout Lee County, play a vital role.
What to expect
Donating blood is safe, simple, and takes less than an hour. Before you donate, a technician will check your pulse, blood pressure, temperature, and hemoglobin. The entire process lasts about 45 minutes, and the actual donation usually takes under 15 minutes.
After donating, you’ll receive your cholesterol level and blood type. Donating can even benefit your body by prompting it to replenish its blood supply. Most people can donate every 56 days.
Donate today
We know the holidays are a busy time. Whether you visit one of our Blood Center locations or meet us at a local blood drive, we work hard to make donating as easy and convenient as possible. To find donor requirements, Blood Center hours, or upcoming Blood Mobile locations, visit LeeHealth.org/our-services/blood-centers/blood-donations.
When you donate through one of the Lee Health Blood Centers or at one of our Blood Mobile drives, your gift stays right here in Lee County, helping our neighbors and visitors when they need it most. Thank you for making a life-changing difference this holiday season and throughout the year.
