BEACHWOOD, Ohio —
Theft: Cedar Road
At 12:35 p.m. Dec. 23, police were called to Nordstrom at Beachwood Place mall, 26300 Cedar Road, on a report of a male shoplifter leaving the store.
An officer spotted the suspect walking in the mall lot and saw him throw a piece of paper to the ground. The officer commanded multiple times for the man to stop, but he kept walking.
Another officer arrived and the man was stopped and handcuffed. In his backpack and pants pocket, police found stolen items that included two pairs of sunglasses, gloves and cologne worth a total of $562.40.
Officers also found on him drug paraphernalia.
Police arrested the 34-year-old Cleveland man on charges of theft, littering, criminal trespassing, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The trespassing charge stemmed from the fact that the man had been banned for five years from the mall due to a theft committed in February, 2022. He was issued another five-year ban that will last until Dec. 23, 20230.
He was also found to be the subject of a Beachwood police warrant for theft.
Theft: Cedar Road
At 3:45 p.m. Dec. 27, police were dispatched to Dillard’s at Beachwood Place on a report of shoplifting.
Store loss prevention personnel watched as two girls replaced on a shelf an empty box. One of the girls then adjusted her coat in a mirror before both left the store.
The girls were found in the mall’s food. One of the girls, under her coat, was found to be concealing five Ralph Lauren brand t-shirts, which had been in the box. The shirts were valued at a total of $69.50.
The girl was charged with theft and released to her mother. Her age was not provided in the report. Her 15-year-old friend was not charged.
Theft: Cedar Road
At 3:45 p.m. Dec. 26, the manager at Lenscrafters at Beachwood Place reported that a woman concealed two pairs of glasses and left the store without paying. The theft was caught on surveillance video.
The suspect was last seen exiting the mall via Nordstrom and then walking to her Volkswagen Tiguan. She put the stolen merchandise in the car, then went back into the mall.
A short time later, police stopped the woman as she went back to her vehicle. When told she was a theft suspect, the woman admitted to stealing the glasses, retrieved them from her car’s glove compartment, and turned them over to police.
The glasses were valued at $354 and $513. Lenscrafters did not wish to pursue a theft charge, but wanted the 56-year-old Cleveland woman trespassed from the store.
Police told her not to return to Lenscrafters, and mall security issued her a six-month ban from returning to the mall.
Handicap parking violations: Richmond Road
At 6:55 p.m. Dec. 23, police were called to Lifetime Fitness, 3850 Richmond Road, on a report of a car illegally parked in a spot reserved for the handicapped.
Police arrived to find three vehicles illegally parked in such designated spaces.
While one car was being ticketed, its male owner walked to his vehicle. Police found through records that a placard in his vehicle expired on Feb. 12, 2024. The portion of the placard where the year is stated was broken off.
The man, 65, of Beachwood, admitted that the placard was issued to his 94-year-old father, who was not present.
Police seized the placard and cited the man. Also cited were a Euclid woman, 59, and a South Euclid woman, 29.
Disorderly conduct: Mercantile Road
At 4:30 p.m. Dec. 26, a woman reporterd that her stepfather had inappropriate contact with her twice while at a family birthday party held at Gymnastics and Parkour School, 23600 Mercantile Road.
The woman told her mother after the first incient took place, and the mother, in turn, spoke with the man. Shortly after, the man again approached his stepdaughter, grabbed her arm and waist and pulled her near, while saying, “Come here, baby.”
The first incident, the woman reported, included the man grabbing her waist, kissing her and nibbling her ear, while saying, “Kissing … oh, baby.”
Police spoke with the man on the phone and he said he did nothing inappropriate. He said he would come to the police station to further explain. The man has not been charged.
