MONDAY
Boys Golf
District 1A-11: In a showdown of area teams, Saint Stephen’s edged Cardinal Mooney by one stroke for the district title, 291-292, at Calusa Country Club.
The Falcons were led by second-place Eddie Gau, Andy Dial (4th, 72), Dylan McLaughlin (8th, 74), and Ferguson McLeod (10th, 75). The Cougars’ Niko Gordic-Ronderos tied Gau for second with teammates Nicholas Brown and Shane Russel tying for fifth with 73, and George McCloskey 12th with a 76.
Bradenton Christian’s Grant McCall won the individual title with a 69 and advanced to regional play.
District 3A-11: Lakewood Ranch claimed the title with a 283 team score, five strokes ahead of second-place Sarasota and 11 strokes ahead of third-place Venice at Jacaranda West Country Club. The Mustangs and Sailors advance to regionals with their top-two finish.
Lakewood Ranch’s Donovan Plakyda won the individual title with a 68, Sarasota’s Jake McDonald placed second with a 70, while the Mustangs’ Owen Gellatly and the Sailors’ Jacob Menard tied for third with 71. The Mustangs’ Brock Blackwell and Jack Wessinger tied for seventh with 73 for the title as Sarasota’s Evan Booth was ninth with a 74 and Jayden Potter 11th with a 75.
Advancing to regionals as individuals were Venice’s Ethan Hosein and Palmetto’s Gavin Johnson, who tied for fifth with 72.
District 2A-12: Braden River placed fourth, shooting a 359, with Dean Carothers tying for 12th with an 87.
Girls Golf
District 1A-11: Out-of-Door punched its ticket to next week’s regional by placing second with a 334, one stroke behind winner Northside Christian, while Cardinal Mooney was third with a 396, and Saint Stephen’s fifth at Calusa Country Club.
Brooklyn Cullen led the Thunder by finishing second with a 72, followed by teammates Daisy Quintal (5th, 79), Kiernan Shaw (11th, 91), and Keira McGrory (12th, 92). The Cougars’ Brooke Stevens advanced as an individual with a 74 to take third. Saint Stephen’s Alessandra Carranza tied for sixth with an 83 but missed advancing due to a tiebreaker.
