Six of the 10 championship matchups have been determined, while No. 2 Hopedale (17-7) awaits its opponent in the Division 5 girls final. Both semifinals will be played Wednesday in D1 boys, D5 boys, and D4 girls. All games will be played Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at Tsongas Center in Lowell (days, times TBA).
Division 1 girls: No. 1 Springfield Central (21-3) vs. No. 3 Wachusett (21-3)
Division 2 boys: No. 1 St. Mary’s (23-3) vs. No. 3 Masconomet (21-3)
Division 2 girls: No. 1 Medfield (24-0) vs. No. 3 St. Mary’s (23-3)
Division 3 boys: No. 1 Hanover (23-1) vs. No. 2 Salem (23-2)
Division 3 girls: No. 1 Bishop Fenwick (19-5) vs. No. 2 Pittsfield (20-5)
Division 4 boys: No. 1 Wareham (20-5) vs. No. 3 Georgetown (19-5)
There were two to choose from, as No. 3 Georgetown and No. 2 Millbury battled to the final possession in Division 4, while No. 3 Masconomet clawed back from down 10 at halftime to defeat No. 2 Pope Francis.
Georgetown, which is on its third coach, Ted Schruender, in the last 12 months — after Josh Kielty left for St. Mary’s and his replacement, Kevin Fair, was dismissed last month for his conduct in a win vs. Newburyport — got big plays late from senior captains Brendan Loewen and Irvin Zapata in a 53-51 Division 4 semifinal victory. Loewen hit a trio of free throws in the final 15 seconds, building on Zapata’s six 3-pointers at Woburn High. Schruender previously coached Triton.
In Worcester, Masconomet fell behind, 20-10, at halftime against Pope Francis. After losing a 16-point halftime lead in last year’s semifinal vs. Somerset Berkley, the Chieftains were motivated to bring it in the second half — and they did, producing a 27-point third quarter en route to a 50-48 Division 2 semifinal victory, powered by 19 points from Thomas Denton and 16 from Jimmy Farrell.
Caitlin Boyle, Bishop Fenwick — The senior chipped in everywhere for the Crusaders, totaling 15 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 blocks in 55-38 Division 3 semifinal win over Medway.
Nathaniel Lane, Salem — The senior set the tone early with 11 first-half points, finishing with 19 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals in a 68-50 win over Lynn Classical in the Division 3 semifinals.
Celia Neilson, Bishop Fenwick — The senior nearly posted a triple-double, filling the stat sheet with 22 points, 11 steals, and 8 rebounds to defeat Medway.
Elian Rodriguez, Salem — The junior did what he does best, score the basketball, netting 19 of his game-high 30 points in the second half to lift the Witches.
