Massachusetts high school sports highlights for Sept. 23

So for those scoring at home, last year’s Division 4 champion crushed last year’s Division 2 champion, which turned around and beat the reigning D3 champ in its next game.
Here’s Tuesday’s full scoreboard and recaps. And here are the league standings as we’re just a week away from the midpoint of the fall season: Football | Boys’ soccer | Girls’ soccer | Field hockey | Girls’ volleyball
▪ With Friday’s 6-0 win over Tewksbury, the Central Catholic girls’ soccer program recorded its 350th victory. The Raiders (6-1 this season) are 351-122-70 in their history following Tuesday’s 8-0 win over Methuen that saw Olivia Swett and Ava Lee combine for five goals and two assists.
▪ Plymouth North girls’ soccer defeated No. 17 Hingham, 2-1, on Mia Hergenhan’s goal with 10 seconds remaining, and St. Mary’s girls’ volleyball defeated Bishop Fenwick for the first time in 18 years, 3-2.
▪ Over at The Cape Club in East Falmouth, Nauset defeated Falmouth High, 246-271, to clinch a share of the Cape & Islands Atlantic division crown.
▪ The Rockport golf team had four players combine for 120 points for the first time in school history during a 172-125 win against Georgetown: Brady Murray (33), Nolan Bace (30), Ben Kesterson (29), and Ben Sperry (28).
▪ On Monday, Rockland boys’ soccer coach Dan Kimball recorded his 100th career win with a 5-1 victory over Mystic Valley.
▪ Westford Academy junior Kiley Carmichael has verbally comitted to play women’s lacrosse at Arizona State after helping the Ghosts reach the state championship game last spring playing alongside her older sister, Kassidy — who is now playing ice hockey and lacrosse at Ohio State.
▪ Central Catholic junior forward Sarah Tressler has verbally committed to play women’s soccer at Brown.
▪ Two Triton seniors announced their college choices, with senior infielder Genaro Carrillo going to Gordon and senior infielder/righthander Gavin Fraser bound for Northern Essex.
Medfield football, with a 12-38 record since 2020 and 4-7 mark each of the last two seasons, is 3-0 for the first time since 2005, earning coach Erik Omberg the Patriots Coach of the Week award.
Ormberg, at the helm since 2001, coached the Warriors to a 35-12 victory over Hopkinton on Friday, which followed wins over Dracut (50-21) and Weston (28-14).
“High school football is built on the dedication and leadership of coaches like Erik Ormberg,” said Patriots Hall of Fame linebacker Andre Tippett, who presented the program with a $1,000 donation. “Through his commitment to his players and community, he has helped Medfield start the season with energy, confidence, and resilience.”
Medfield was led by senior Brady McCormack, who ran 16 times for 227 yards and scored three total touchdowns.
▪ WPI freshman kicker Nathan Napier, a Natick graduate, was selected NEWMAC co-Special Teams Athlete of the Week after connecting on a trio of field goals, including the winning 35-yard boot with 53 seconds left to give the Engineers a 15-13 win over Husson. He also hit from 22 and a career-high 41 yards.
▪ Trinity senior wide receiver Nolan O’Brian, a Lincoln-Sudbury graduate, was named NESCAC co-Special Teams Player of the Week, delivering a 79-yard punt return touchdown in a 30-13 win over Bates. He averaged 28.7 yards and totaled 115 on four punt returns, while also catching nine passes for 140 yards and two touchdowns and rushing three times for 24 yards.
▪ UMass Dartmouth junior Cameron Thompson, a Dover-Sherborn graduate, was named Little East Conference Runner of the Week after finishing 12th at the 52nd annual UMass Dartmouth Invitational.
