Nottingham Forest are confident of making it a double of raids on Man Utd, though the structure of one particular deal is yet to be ironed out, per a report.
Man Utd have already addressed two key areas in their squad this summer. Andre Onana has displaced David de Gea who is now a free agent and in search of his next club. Elsewhere, Mason Mount has added creativity to Erik ten Hag’s central midfield ranks.
Attention is now turning to signing a new starting striker. Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund is the man in their sights and personal terms have already been agreed. The next step is to lodge an official bid, something that is expected to happen imminently.
But to ensure United can afford the outlay required and to have enough money left to buy a defensive midfielder too, player exits are required.
To that end, Nottingham Forest are providing Man Utd with a lifeline and have already reached a £15m agreement to sign Anthony Elanga.
News of Elanga’s permanent move broke last Friday, and NottinghamshireLive today provide a brief update on the move.
They state the 21-year-old Sweden international will undergo a medical today (Monday).
Forest have fended off stiff competition from the likes of Everton, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig for Elanga. What’s more, it’s revealed talks remain ongoing over re-signing Dean Henderson too.
The United stopper, 26, enjoyed a fruitful campaign at the City Ground while on loan last year.
Henderson’s season was cut short thanks to a thigh injury that ultimately required surgery. However, Forest saw enough from Henderson when fit to determine they’d love to have the England international back.
To that end, the Athletic provide an update of their own, claiming Forest ‘remain hopeful of agreeing a deal to bring Henderson back’.
Whether they’ll push for a permanent capture or another loan hasn’t yet been determined at the club. However, if it’s the latter, it’s likely an option or obligation to buy will be included.
From Man Utd’s perspective an outright sale would be preferred. That route would free up immediate funds for Ten Hag to splash on a striker and holding midfielder.
A prior Mail report claimed Henderson is expected to cost around £20m if moving on a permanent basis.
