Joe Mazzulla is not holding a spot in the roster for now. Analysts aren’t optimistic. Players are bracing themselves to come off the bench at any time. During a very, very uncertain time for the Boston Celtics, only Jaylen Brown gave fans a bit of hope. Hope being Jayson Tatum’s return. It’s going to be a very different team than what won the 2023 championship with JT’s void that needs filling. In such a bleak time for fans, Jaylen got an expert backing him up.
Dr Jesse Morse, better known for the ‘Injury Expertz’ on YouTube, has experience treating sports injuries, mostly on the NFL end. He’s not directly involved in JT’s recovery. But he’s studied the prognosis and presented a study since reviewing Tatum’s condition on his channel.
A week ago, Morse presented a timeline based on his expertise. In summary, since Tatum’s oncourt injury on May 13, 2025, he had surgery almost immediately (that post from the hospital bed left a permanent impression on our minds). According to Dr Morse, that quick surgery is”is unheard of, but could prove to be invaluable.”
He also touts, Dr. Martin O’Malley, who performed the surgery as the only physician on a newly released cutting edge paper regarding Achilles rehabilitation. Based on Dr. O’Malley’s paper, if Tatum checks every point in his recovery, the earliest date he can get on the court is October 28, 2025.
It may be cutting it a little close but Morse adds, “Assuming no setbacks I think November/December is possible, but January is probably more realistic.” That puts Tatum’s possible return before All-Star break when most rumors circulating claim he’d return after the ASG weekend.
This is of course just speculation on Dr. Morse’s part. The official return and its timeline depends on Tatum and his medical team, which involved Dr. O’Malley.
