MUSC program to fill need for SC health coaches

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – A new program by the Medical University of South Carolina is set to help fill an anticipated demand for health coaches.
MUSC’s program is board certified with the National Board for Health and Wellness.
It’s the only certified program across the state that is publicly available.
This initiative is working to directly impact South Carolina’s health care as the demand for health coaches is growing as many people suffer from chronic illnesses.
The state department of public health says six out of 10 adults deal with conditions everyday which are also the leading cause of disabilities.
Leaders hope to get more board-certified coaches into the state as students will be connected to industry experts like physicians and dieticians.
Seats are still available for people interested in applying for the 21-week program.
Weekly sessions start in January with 25 trainees.
