The William G. Rohrer Children’s Playground in Pennsauken’s Cooper River Park recently got a $2.5 million makeover.
The upgrades at North Park Drive included new playground and fitness areas, improved sidewalks and updated amenities like drinking fountains, shade structures and picnic areas.
The renovation was funded through a $1.7 million grant from the state’s Green Acres Program and a $750,000 Urban Parks grant, according to a statement by the Camden County Board of Commissioners.
Improvements include a new rubber surface with an drainage system, irrigation and enhanced landscaping.
The playground reopened during the summer and is part of the historic Cooper River Park, which spans 346 acres across Pennsauken, Cherry Hill, Collingswood, and Haddon Township.
The park, designed by Charles Levitt over a century ago, has been recognized as a “Great Place in New Jersey” by the American Planning Association-New Jersey Chapter.
The park also is home to the Camden County Boathouse and the Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta, the nation’s largest high school and college rowing competition.
