The Green Bay Packers Foundation this year awarded $1.5 million in grants to 395 civic and charitable organizations across Wisconsin.
Recipients were recognized during a luncheon on Dec. 17 in the Lambeau Field Atrium. Representatives from grant recipients Mandolin Foundation and Amanda’s House in Green Bay; Coco’s Heart Dog Rescue in Hudson; and Habitat for Humanity of Wisconsin River Area in Baraboo spoke.
Brown County had 38 recipients.
They and the remainder of the state can be found here.
This year’s grant cycle focused on animal welfare, health and wellness, including drug, alcohol and domestic violence, civic and community initiatives and environmental causes.
Grants are awarded for designated causes on a three-year rotating cycle. Last year’s grants were for arts and culture, athletics and education. Next year, the focus will be on areas of need, including the elderly, homelessness, human services and hunger.
Organizations located in Wisconsin and classified as exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code, with a valid IRS Tax ID for a minimum of two years, are eligible to apply for a grant. Organizations may only apply for a grant once during the three-year cycle.
Interested applicants can find out if they are eligible and complete the application online at packers.com/foundation. Grant amounts can range from $3,000 to $8,000. Recipients might not receive the total amount requested. Grant distributions vary annually based on number of applications and total amount of funding approved for distribution.
Grant applications are reviewed by the Green Bay Packers Foundation trustees. A public announcement of grant recipients takes place in November or December.
The foundation has distributed more than $25.7 million for charitable purposes since it was established in 1986.
