Those out and about in Lake Charles this morning might receive a bouquet from a stranger. The catch? Recipients have to share the love.
The Flower Shop of Lake Charles, in partnership with The Ritz Academy and the Society of American Florists (SAF), will spread kindness across the community by handing out more than 100 bouquets to commuters.
“Petal It Forward” event is a nationwide initiative organized by SAF, designed to spread kindness and joy through the simple yet meaningful act of giving flowers. The event typically takes place in mid-October and encourages florists across the U.S. to give away free flowers to random strangers. The concept is to brighten someone’s day by giving them a flower and then offering them a second flower to pass on to someone else. This creates a ripple effect of kindness, said Austin Ramos, owner, Flower Shop of Lake Charles.
The event involves giving away two bouquets to each recipient – one to keep and one to share with someone else. This is the Flower Shop’s first time participating in the event. They will visit residents at The Villages of Imperial Pointe with flowers in tow, while Ritz Academy staff will distribute flowers to morning commuters throughout the city.
“We’re thrilled to partner with The Ritz Academy and the Society of American Florists to share the power of flowers,” said Kaila Ramos, owner and executive florist, the Flower Shop. “In today’s busy world, a simple gesture like giving or receiving flowers can make someone’s day a little brighter, and that’s exactly what this campaign is all about.”
According to SAF research, 88 percent of people feel happy giving flowers, while 80 percent say receiving them brings joy.
“It’s scientifically proven that flowers increase your mood, promote happiness,” said Austin. “It just makes you naturally happy, you know?”
