Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) – One of the four Rochester residents charged in connection with the Feeding Our Future fraud scandal today entered a guilty plea to federal charges.
The Office of the US Attorney for Minnesota says 37-year-old Sharmake Jama was accused of participating in the massive scheme to defraud a federal child nutrition program during the COVID pandemic. Court documents indicate was the owner of Brava Restaurant in Rochester and enrolled in the nutrition program under the sponsorship of the Feeding Our Future organization.

He was accused of fraudulently claiming to serve approximately 2000 to 3000 meals per day to children for a total of more than 1.7 million meals in a little over a year. Federal prosecutors say he received over $5.3 million in reimbursements through the federal program.
A news release says Jama used the funds for a variety of personal expenditures, including $500,000 invested in real estate in Rochester and Rosemount and nearly $90,000 for a vehicle purchase.

Jama appeared in federal court in Minneapolis today and entered a guilty plea to one count of wire fraud and one count of money laundering. His sentencing hearing has not been scheduled.
