What Life Skills Do You Think They Should Have Taught Us In School To Better Prepare Us For Adulthood?
Like taxes, nutrition, how to navigate insurance policies, etc.? Share your thoughts!
I don’t know about you, but I have a lot of memories of sitting in class wondering how the periodic table will ever help me. Why am I being forced to run a mile every week? The list goes on.
But this isn’t to say the things we learned in school aren’t helpful or important. THEY ARE! In fact, I’m extremely grateful for the public education system. But I couldn’t help but wonder, since education is a resource — what else could we have learned in school that would be helpful to us in life as adults?
I thought about this even more when it came to the adult things I wish I’d been better prepared for. Like, when I had to pay my taxes for the first time, or deal with a flat tire in the middle of the day.
Or, when I had to pick out a health insurance plan and navigate its terminologies and policies (PPO, HMO, HSA??). What’s a 401 (k) vs. an IRA? I wished we were also taught these things in school — at least given a snapshot of it and what to expect.
Now it’s your turn! Will you share your thoughts on the things that you think we should have learned in school? Let us know in the comments!
