Sports radio host Don Geronimo seeks ‘accurate reflection’ after being fired for ‘Barbie’ comment

Sports radio host Don Geronimo is evaluating his options after being fired for making a “Barbie” comment about a female reporter during Washington Commanders training camp.
Geronimo was fired by iHeartMedia’s WBIG-FM after making a number of comments about Sharla McBride, a reporter for WUSA9 in Washington D.C., including saying “Hi, Barbie girl” as she walked by him.
“At this time I will not be providing comment on the events of the last few days,” Geronimo tweeted Sunday.
“I am consulting with my advisors as to my options moving forward, including an accurate reflection of the situation.”
Geronimo, whose real name is Michael Sorce, also yelled, “I thought she was a cheerleader,” about McBride.
Geronimo, along with co-host Crash Young, had already been barred from training camp by the Commanders for the comments before WBIG dismissed him.
WBIG is part of the Commanders’ radio network.

McBride said she believed Geronimo’s comments were “sexist and misogynistic”.
“When I heard the comments made about me on the radio show, I felt incredibly insulted and embarrassed,” McBride told ESPN in a statement.

“In my 17 years as a professional journalist, I have never been disrespected in such a blatant manner while trying to do my job. Their words were sexist and misogynistic. No woman should experience this in the workplace, and I appreciate the Commanders swift response in handling this matter.”
iHeartMedia’s D.C. Region president Aaron Hyland announced Geronimo’s firing in a statement to the Washington Post.
“After an internal review, Don Geronimo is no longer an employee of WBIG,” the statement said. “We take matters of this nature very seriously and this behavior does not align with our core values.”
