Over at the Reggie Lewis Center, the Billerica girls’ indoor track team secured its third straight Division 3 state championship, while the Milton boys finished on top for the first time in more than a decade. Brad Joyal had all the storylines.
That doesn’t mean there wasn’t any action.
Maybe it was the anticipation of the start of February break, but after swimming in major milestones all week, the high school sports scene was fairly quiet Friday night.
In Quincy, 14th-ranked North Quincy clinched a Patriot Fisher title by taking down two-time defending division champion Quincy, 52-44, in an emotional win for second-year coach Liana Cunningham, a 2018 Quincy graduate. Read all about it from Trevor Hass.

1. Breen goes bang

Just a week ago, Franck Moron was recording his 1,000th point for Shawsheen boys’ basketball. Teammate Matt Breen wasn’t far behind. The senior notched his 1,000th during a 21-point, 16-rebound performance in the Rams’ 71-51 win over Bedford.
Breen became the eighth member of Shawsheen’s 1,000-point club. He and Moron are the first two additions since coach Joseph Gore reached the mark in 2008.
“It’s been a total full-circle moment. I couldn’t be any more proud of the two of them and how they’ve come along since freshman year,” said Gore. “Being able to be a part of that next person’s journey and being able to witness that is a surreal moment.”
Meanwhile, Austin Prep forward Faith Steiner recorded her 100th point on a first-period assist during a 4-0 girls’ hockey win over Holderness School. Pope Francis freshman goalie Alia Rosenblum notched a 10-save shutout in an 8-0 win over Barnstable.

“Our efforts are to finalize the date and time for the rescheduled meets to sometime next weekend,” the MIAA stated. “We are working to confirm the postponed date by Saturday.”
All purchased tickets will be valid for the new date. The D1 and D2 girls’ meets are on as scheduled on Saturday.
