Stabbed in back in random Manhattan attack

A man was stabbed in the back in a random, unprovoked attack on a Manhattan street, police said Friday.
The incident happened 1:30 p.m. in front of a New York University fitness center on Lafayette St. near E. 4th St.
Police said the 20-year-old victim was walking south on Lafayette when the attacker came up from behind and stabbed him twice in the back without saying a word.
The victim suffered two puncture wounds for which he later sought treatment on his own.
Police said the pony-tailed suspect, caught on video carrying a water bottle in his right hand and a red suitcase in his left hand, was last seen heading south on Lafayette St.
Anyone with information about him is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.
