Ted Lasso Season 4 Gets Surprising Filming Update From WB Exec (Despite No Official Renewal)

Ted Lasso season 4 gets a filming update from a top WB executive, although no official renewal has been announced. After over a year of silence, it was announced in August that Apple TV+ and Warner Bros. TV, the studio behind the Emmy-winning sports comedy, were taking the first steps to renew Ted Lasso season 4. The first of those steps was reportedly for WB TV to pick up the options of actors in the UK acting union, namely Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, and Roy Kent. They respectively play Rebecca Welton, Roy Kent, and Leslie Higgins.
Deadline reports that no Ted Lasso actors have yet been locked in to return. However, Channing Dungey, Chairman and CEO of the Warner Bros. Television Group did mention that WB TV and other producers are looking at potential filming dates. Her comments came as she attended Warner Bros Television Group’s Fall TV Season Celebration, and, in the brief quote below, Dungey strikes an optimistic tone about the return of the Apple TV+ hit:
“We are just in early production conversations, but it’s exciting.”
New Episodes May Be On The Way, But The Cast & Crew Won’t Say It
Close
After the initial reports about picking up the options on Goldstein, Waddingham, and Swift, a separate update mentioned that Phil Dunster would not be returning as Jamie Tartt for season 4 as a series regular due to scheduling conflicts with other series. However, he may be back as a guest star. The update, in any case, proves that there has been movement in reaching out to the Ted Lasso cast and seeing who is available.
The initial report from August revealed that, after reaching out to the actors with SAG-AFTRA contracts, the next goal would be to open up a writers’ room and potentially begin filming in 2025. But in recent interviews, Waddingham and Goldstein have downplayed the report about the show’s future and stressed that they don’t have any major news to share.

Comments from Bill Lawrence, who co-created the series with Brendan Hunt, Joe Kelly, and Jason Sudeikis, pointed to the reason there was nothing official about Ted Lasso. Lawrence said in part: “The only sure bet in Hollywood is that nobody involved with Ted Lasso will ever, ever speak about it until Jason makes his decision of who he wants to talk to and what he wants to tell.” Lawrence explained that this is because Sudeikis, who plays the lead character, would be devoting a lot of time to the series and making the most sacrifices. But even with that caveat, there is clearly movement on the previously dormant series.
Our Take On Ted Lasso’s Renewal
It’s A Bit Puzzling
The comedy is one of the biggest television shows and is easily the biggest success story that Apple TV+ has. This makes it a little perplexing that the steamer did not lock down at least some of the actors for potential spinoffs. Although the main series likely couldn’t continue without the titular Ted Lasso, there should have been more clarity about the path forward not long after season 3 wrapped. It’s been more than a year now, but developments are finally progressing.
